The 2009 Rules are posted

SSO veterans will notice a few changes in the rules (also in our "Essential Links" section):
  • We've added clarifications where Girls and Boys rules differ.
  • We've fixed the inconsistencies between the rules, particularly as they had to do with field dimensions.
  • Boys will face off to start each half. This works. Believe us!
  • There are stalling rules. Teams with the lead have to "keep it in" in the last 2 minutes. The box is your half of the field, inside the take back line.
  • Inner crease violations are spelled out in more detail and now include a goal-tending provision. Bottom line: Don't go in there -- ever! Not even for a loose ball that is unreachable.
And there are a few other items we cleaned up. Please make yourself aware of the rules before the tournament. But don't obsess over the rules just because we do! We'll have plenty of people at the tournament to explain the game and keep it fun.

When will we see the schedule?

Great question! We will create the schedule very quickly after we close reservations on Monday June 29, 2009. We will publish the schedule here by Wednesday morning.

Plan on spending 5 or 6 hours at the tournament, at least. Teams progressing deep into the playoffs will be there longer. Here's the general schedule:
  • All teams will play at least 3 pool games. Each game starts precisely on the half hour. You may be scheduled for back-to-back games, but there will not be three games in a row for any single team. So your 3 pool games could take up to 3-4 hours to complete.
  • Registration will be staggered, starting at 8am for the divisions that start play early.
  • The Boys 5/6 and Girls 7/8 divisions will start early in the day, with first games for all teams starting by 10:30am. Pool play should be completed by about 1pm. Playoffs may extend until 5pm or so.
  • The rest of the divisions will start later in the morning. All divisions will start play before noon.
  • The last of the finals should be completed by 6pm or 7pm
Until we know exactly how many teams are in each division, we can't do a detailed schedule. Get your friends to sign up by Monday June 29, 9pm! There is still room in all divisions, but the Boys youth (5/6 and 7/8) and Girls 7/8 divisions are filling up quickly!
